Creating a Quiet Place | Santa Cruz Mountains

Helping a client find and build a family retreat that feels truly "away from it all." By focusing on genuine local relationships and a deep respect for the land, we were able to connect three historic properties into one cohesive 1,100-acre ranch for the next generation.

The Goal

Our client wanted a simple, rustic place within a few hours of the Bay Area—somewhere their family could reconnect with nature and be up and running within a year or two.

The Approach

Rather than just looking at what was "for sale," we spent time in the Santa Cruz Mountains getting to know the community. We found an initial piece of land that had been in the same family for over a century. By being transparent about our client’s wish to be a good neighbor and long-term steward, we were able to earn the trust of the surrounding landowners.

The Result

Through those personal connections, two neighbors—including a 90-year-old resident and a local music legend—decided to entrust their land to our client. We were able to stitch these parcels together into an 1,100-acre home. Today, it’s a quiet mix of redwood groves, simple cabins, and working land that the family can enjoy for years to come.
